Mackay Memorial Hospital

http://www.mmh.org.tw/home/index.html

Mackay Memorial Hospital is presently under the jurisdiction of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. The hospital was established in memory of Dr. George Leslie Mackay who followed in the footsteps of his Master by coming to Taiwan with the message of salvation for all men. Dr. Mackay was born in Zola Village, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada on March 21, 1844. Even as a small child, he felt the call of Christ and wanted to become a missionary.
Thus on March 9, 1872, the Canadian Presbyterian Church commissioned him to go to Taiwan as a medical missionary. Dr. Mackay founded the Mackay Clinic in Tamshui, which was the first Western hosital in the northern part of Taiwan in 1880. By 1912, the clinic was moved from the small river community of Tamshui to its present site in the large metropolis of Taipei. The name of the clinic was changed to Mackay Memorial Hospital. The main branch of hospital is equipped with 1091 beds, including 95 ICU beds, and serves an average of more than 5000 outpatients and 350 emergency room patients, daily.

However, we must continue under His guidance to take an active role in addressing current and future challenges. Implementation of National Health Insurance is an ongoing process. A 16-story building is under construction next to the main Taipei branch, to expand outpatient and educational facilities. The Nursing School is also being upgraded and new facilities are being built, including a model hospice. A long-term goal is the establishment of a medical school.

Lastly, it is our prayer that under God's direction, Mackay Memorial Hospital will continue not only to provide quality care at a medical center level, but also to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to meet the needs of the whole person.

TAIWAN'S MEDICAL SERVICE CATHAY GENERAL HOSPITAL

http://www.apot.com/bizplaza/health/gathay/

Cathay General Hospital was founded in 1977 in active cooperation with National Taiwan University Medical School and National Taiwan University Hospital, thus establishing a strong foundation for development. In the past 20 years our standards in medical care have earned us a wide reputation for excellence, which has been the key to our steadily growing revenues. This growth has prompted three major expansions of our facilities between 1978 and 1986. Currently, in-patient facilities have a capacity of beds for 600 patients.

The reputation Cathay General Hospital has earned for excellent service stems from the hospital's commitment to the principle of “service first”. In 1987 we were honored with the Hospital Gold Award and, in 1991 and 1994 were certified as a teaching hospital. In 1997, Commonwealth Magazine's corporate reputation survey noted our “high ethical standards and excellent medical service quality”, ranking us Taiwan's most reputable hospital after NTU Hospital and Veteran's Hospital.

To widen the scope of our medical services, in 1997 Cathay General Hospital officially took over the operations of Neihu General Hospital, Neihu Medical Center. In the future we will activity strive to train technically and ethically superior doctors. Also, the construction of our Hsichih Medical Center has already been approved by the Department of Health. This addition will provide us with greater research, laboratory, teaching and library space, thus strengthening our medical school functions, helping us continuously raise the standards of research, and to contribute to the quality of medical care in Taiwan.
